Cool accessory for the Switch dock. You can choose between 2 different plate designs and several different colors. The dock sits on top of the light up base and you plug the device into the usb connection on the back of the Switch dock to power it. This device lights up even with the Switch powered off and without the Switch console in the dock. As long as the dock is plugged into a power connection and the dock shield is plugged into the dock via USB, it will power on.
There is also a strobe light effect which quickly cycles through every color, which is mainly just to show off the dock shield. The dock shield likely uses very little electricity due to it being connected to USB and due to the lights being LEDs.
Do note that the face plates come with a film on them to protect them from scratches. You might have to use a finger nail to peel them off starting at the corners but they do come off. The protective film is likely to prevent scratching and fingerprints during the manufacturing / packing process.
Overall, it's a great device and it's fairly cheap. I paid around $16. It adds a little extra flair to the dock with or without the lights turned on. It's also an official Nintendo licensed product which is reassuring of the quality.

Fun vanity "mod", got it to "fit" with my HIDEit mount!
UPDATE: Ended up modding the case to get it flush with the wall mount. It's perfect now! I opened the case (4 screws under the rubber feet) and added in some rare earth magnets to replace the command strips, thus making it flush vertically. I then cut a hole in the side of the case for a usb extension cable (3' usb micro A male to micro A female) and hot glued it in place. Now the power cable plugs into the side, allowing the shield to be fully flush. Plus, there's still enough room on the back to reach the power/light buttons without having to move the shield! ORIGINAL REVIEW: Nice lightweight product, and the acrylic plates can be removed with no effort. This means you can find/make custom plates if you know where to look! I also own the HIDEit wall mount for my Switch, and I took a gamble knowing it probably wouldn't work out due to the power and button placement (and the fact that it likely wasn't going to fit inside the wall mount anyway, lol). However, with some command strips or decently strong double sided tape, I was able to adhere the dock plate with only a 0.5 inch gap between where the acrylic ended up and where it would have been originally. Once you take a step or two back, you can't even tell it's not flush! Overall I'm stoked about this product. I'm hoping to see if I can use a spare wall adapter to keep it plugged in (and free up the side USB ports since I tend to use those pretty often). With the flexibility of having extra acrylic plates (either official or third-part/independent), this is definitely a flashy must-buy.

We bought this for our 14 year old son to put on his Nintendo Switch dock. He begged, and we relented....he got the Zelda/Mario Odyssey plates.
Really Cool...once you remove the blue film...

So...the worst part of this is removing the blue protective film from both sides of each plate. Thanks to the other reviewers for the statements about the film! Nowhere on the box or instructions does it say that there is a film that must be removed.
I was able to remove the film easily from one side of each plate. The remaining sides were much more difficult. The easy sides...I simply went to a corner and raked my nail over it and it pulled up a tiny bit, but enough to remove the film. The more difficult sides...I started out using my nails, to no avail. After about 5 minutes of trying to remove the remaining blue film on each plate, I grabbed my cuticle clippers and opened them up. I then very gently raked the point of one side of the clippers over a corner, and by some miracle, it worked! You will NOT get the colors until you remove the blue film off of both sides of each plate.
Even though the film is difficult to remove, I still gave this 5 stars. (They should provide a tab to pull the film off of each side - that's the only way this product could be made better) Once you get the film off, the colors show up beautifully. It is very easy to install and very easy to set your color or to set it on revolving color. Our son is happy and thus, we are happy.
You won't be disappointed in this product. It's well worth its price!

Now the power cable plugs into the side, allowing the shield to be fully flush. Plus, there's still enough room on the back to reach the power/light buttons without having to move the shield!

Fácil de montar, ya que es poner el que más te guste, poner debajo del dock y conectar el USB al mismo dock. La base tiene 3 botones, uno para encender los leds, otro para cambiar el modo de los leds, color estático, color con cambio progresivo y color con cambio brusco a otro color, y otro tercer botón para cambiar el color si estás en el modo estático. Los colores que trae son los básicos pero es suficiente: Azul, Blanco/azul claro, verde y rojo

As for the product itself, it gives an otherwise dull and plain generic piece of black plastic a life, and becomes a focal point and attention grabber for anyone who never knew it existed.
With the choice of colours, and pulsing modes you are sure to find one to suit you room mood.
And I don't see how with a little 3d printing knowhow and patience you couldn't make some custom "shields" yourself.
Definitely a 5* purchase for adults and kids alike.
